Abstract
Teachers who
mediate their students work
through e-moderated threads may have a thorough assessment of how
learners build knowledge. My hypothesis is that students who
are active
participants in online
discussion are members of knowledge ecologies : the gatekeepers of
the future.
The presenter will explain the
development of knowledge ecologies in EFL and will provide examples
of how knowledge is built in computer mediated conferencing. The
presenter will also show the audience recorded material from
discussion groups, chats, threads and e-moderated lessons, providing
theoretical background and pinning it down with real life examples
in online education.
-
This PDS is
aimed at EFL/ESL teachers working at schools, institutes,
universities or at home
-
You do not
need to worry about being able to surf the web, an e-mail
containing the tutorials and the links to the internet will be
sent to you by the tutor. Tutor will provide you with support once
you have enrolled to the PDS and prior to the delivery of the
workshop.

What is it
about? I will take you to a virtual scenario in which together you
will experience the presence of an online tutor during the
analysis of different virtual learning environments (virtual
classrooms).
What are the
components? This PDS consists of 2 synchronous online sessions and
48 hs in between each session for reflecting, exploring and
posting messages to the virtual classroom and queries to the
online tutor. The technolgies used will be delivered by low-band
i.e., an ordinary telephone connection. They worked fine in Tucuman, Mendoza, Sao
Paulo and Guadalajara last year, so I hope everybody will be able
to use them.
-
What do I
need to access it?
The technological requirements are a Personal Computer with
word processing,
access to the internet, an e-mail account, you might need
to download Flash 4 but I
will provide you with the hyperlink.
-
What does the
tutor need from you?
I need you to believe in what you engage! And make sure
that your computer is free from viruses and worms before starting.
Run Norton live up-dates. Find a professional if
necessary!
