 Plain English: Guide to Business Correspondence


When writing business letters, faxes, e-mails and memos, the language used has to be clear, formal, polite, simple and direct. Do not use long, twisted sentences. Remember that English is a very economic language.

Use the KISS formula: Keep it Short and Simple

The following words and phrases can help you write more effective business letters, faxes and 
mails:

2-attached hereto

3-cooperate together

4-be of the opinion

5-both alike

6-enclosed herewith

7-have a tendency to

8-in many instances

9-in the event that

10-in this day and age

Letter- writing

You can choose between two different acceptable styles of letter:

  • blocked

  • indented

However, blocked style is preferred nowadays.
